Malacanang should monitor PSG ‘rape’ complaint

Senator Pia S. Cayetano today called on Palace officials to closely follow developments in the police investigation of the rape complaint filed by a 15-year-old girl against a member of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) who allegedly abused her inside the PSG barracks in Malacanang on Sunday night.

Cayetano, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Youth, Women and Family Relations, expressed alarm over the rape complaint since it involved government personnel.

The subjects of the complaint include the prime suspect, a PSG member, and a barangay captain who allegedly “sold” the victim to the suspect who was reportedly with two other unidentified men at the time of the alleged incident.

“Malacanang should closely monitor this case. It should accord full protection to the victim, who’s a minor, and ensure that all the perpetrators are unmasked and put behind bars.”

“If in fact, rape was committed by the presidential guard right inside the PSG barracks, then this is very disturbing because government personnel have a sworn duty to serve the people at all times.”

“At the minimum, this case underscores the urgency to promote human rights education and gender sensitivity awareness in the bureaucracy, including among our uniformed personnel,” she concluded. #
